Ken Dorros
Artist’s Statement and Biography

Much of my work is done on location, particularly the rolling landscapes of the Connecticut River Valley, with all of its rich tones and textures throughout the year. My other favorite places include Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard and Maine.

While landscapes are my first passion, I get a kick out of doing still lifes, which lend themselves to exciting uses of color, composition and style. There’s something lyrical, even sensuous, about the contours of a pear.

My favorite thing about painting is how it changes the way you see the world, particularly light, color and atmosphere. A great painting should convey the essence of those elements from nature to the canvas. Unlike a photograph, it allows the viewer to interpret and complete the painting in a unique and personal way.
